-------------------- A "landmine detection rat" has been awarded the Gold Medal for his "life-saving bravery and responsibility." The rat won a top civilian award for the first time for his bravery in finding a landmine before an explosion in Cambodia. He has discovered 39 landmines in the last seven years since receiving training at the Magawa Charity APOPO, a pouched rat in Afghanistan, 26 of which were before the explosion. He is the most successful hero rat of the charity, clearing more than 141,000 square meters of land which is equivalent to about 20 football fields. Magawa has been officially recognized for his work and has been presented with a tiny PDSA gold medal equivalent to the animal equivalent of George Cross.
